Inauguration of the Eco Club for the year 2019-20

The Eco Club of St Joseph’s Indian High School was inaugurated for the academic year 2019-20 on the 1st of August 2019. The inauguration ceremony was conducted by the members of the Eco Club under the guidance of Ms. Rashmi. The chief guest for the program was Rev. Fr Melvin D’Cuhna SJ.

The program began with the lighting of the lamp and an invocation song by the students headed by Mr .Amrutraj, Fr Felix Anand SJ and Ms. Manjula. Rev. Fr. Henry Saldanha, the Headmaster welcomed the gathering. In his address to the student community, the chief guest Fr. Melwin D’ Cunha highlighted the importance and urgency of taking care of our mother earth and the environment around us. He also highlighted the need for waste management and cleanliness. This was followed by the students taking the Eco Club Oath which was led by Mrs. Sagaya Kumari. The dignitaries along with the office bearers of the Eco Club inaugurated the Club formally by collectively planting a sapling. Rev. Fr Leo Pereira SJ, the Rector of St Joseph’s Indian Institutions also stressed the need for saving and conserving water and keeping the campus clean and green.

A video presentation on the harmful effects of the use of plastic and the need for conservation of nature including flora and fauna by Mr. Praveen made the participant think seriously about the harm that is caused to the nature today. A mime was presented by a group of students under the guidance of Mr. Jeevan and Mr. Eranna regarding the benefits of growing trees and supporting the cause of nature conservation and aforestation. The program ended with the vote of thanks by Mrs. Josephine Flora. The inauguration of the Eco Club aimed at creating awareness in all the students and staff regarding the importance of protecting nature, planting trees and reducing pollution and the use of plastic.
